Olympic College Golf Shows Momentum at Bandon League Match
On the women's side, the weekend marked an important step forward for Olympic College Golf, as the Rangers were able to send three competitors to a league event for the first time this season.
The Olympic College golf teams continued to build momentum this week at the league match hosted by Southwest Oregon Community College at Bandon Crossings Golf Course in Bandon, Oregon, highlighted by a strong step forward for the men's team and a key participation milestone for the women's program.
The men's team finished fifth in the conference field, a significant improvement from a ninth‑place result against the same league opponents in the fall. The four‑spot climb in the standings reflects the Rangers' growing consistency as league play moves deeper into the spring season.
Olympic College was led individually by Matix Thorne, who posted rounds of 78 and 84 to finish at 162 (+18). KJ Bentz followed closely at 163 (+19) after rebounding with a strong second‑round 79, while Raymond Jennings added a steady 164 (+20) with rounds of 81 and 83. Alex Moore, Colin Whitehead, and Kaiden Scott rounded out the Olympic lineup, contributing to one of the program's most competitive league performances of the year despite demanding coastal conditions.
On the women's side, the weekend marked an important step forward for Olympic College Golf, as the Rangers were able to send three competitors to a league event for the first time this season. Kiyomi McKenzie led the group with rounds of 105 and 106, gaining valuable multi‑round experience in conference play, while Kaylee Cushman and Samantha Hooker also competed as the program continues to build toward greater roster stability and depth.
Next up, Olympic College Golf returns to Washington for the South Puget Sound league match at Tumwater Valley Golf Course, scheduled for April 19 and 20. The Rangers will then shift their focus to a pivotal stretch as Olympic College hosts the league match at Gold Mountain Golf Club on April 26 and 27.
Following the home event, the stakes rise for the men's team. If the Rangers can continue their climb and work their way into the top five teams in the league standings, they will qualify for the NWAC Championships in May—an opportunity that now sits firmly within reach as the season reaches its decisive phase.
