Rangers Spring Into Action at UPS Season Start
[Coach Jakan Austin, Tacoma]
The Olympic College Rangers Track & Field team had a strong start to the season this past weekend at the Ed Boitano Invitational hosted by the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. In our first meet of the year, the Rangers had four athletes qualify for the NWAC Championships, highlighting an impressive opening performance for the program.
Cole Skipper qualified for NWAC in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.33m (145'5").
Sypress Aupa'ua won the shot put and qualified for the NWAC Championships with a throw of 14.84m (48'8").
Aaron Culler also secured a championship qualifying mark in the high jump, placing second overall with a jump of 1.92m (6'3 ½").
On the women's side, Shay-Lah Squally won the high jump and qualified for the NWAC Championships with a mark of 1.67m (5'5 ¾"). Squally was also just a couple inches away from breaking the school record that she set last year at the NWAC Championships.
In addition to these qualifiers, several other Olympic College athletes delivered strong performances and are just inches or seconds away from hitting championship marks as the season continues.
Overall, this was a great performance from our athletes, especially considering it was our first meet of the season. I'm extremely proud of the effort and competitiveness this team showed, and we're excited to see how the season unfolds. If we already have four athletes qualifying for championships in our opening meet, I'm confident there will be many more to follow.
