Fuiava, Miller Named NWAC Field Athletes of the Week

The Olympic Ranger track & field team had not one, but two athletes of the week for March 14-20, 2022.

Ho'oponokau'ilani [Pono] Fuiava took first in the women's shot put at the Doris Heritage Track Festival. Her mark of 12.77 meters was good enough for an auto qualifier to the NWAC Championships. 

"Pono is a great athlete in the classroom and on the field," said head coach Jakan Austin. "Pono is a couple feet from the discus and shotput record. I believe there is more to come from Pono, the sky is the limit."

Miller finished first in the men's hammer throw at the Doris Heritage Track Festival. His top throw of 51.55 meters was good enough for an automatic qualifying mark to the NWAC Championships in May.

"Miller is a great athlete in the class room and on the field," said head coach Jakan Austin. "Miller already broke the school record in the hammer. I believe there is more to come from him, the sky is the limit."
