Rangers Come Up Short in Tight Home Battle with Tacoma
The Olympic College men's basketball team delivered a gritty effort at home Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a 77–73 loss to Tacoma College in a tightly contested non-conference matchup at the Bremer Student Center.
Olympic stayed within striking distance throughout the afternoon and leaned heavily on the relentless play of Nathaniel Campbell, who turned in one of his strongest performances of the season. Campbell finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds, consistently attacking the rim and getting to the free-throw line, where he converted 13 of 16 attempts. His physical presence on both ends kept the Rangers competitive into the final minutes.
Tacoma held a narrow halftime edge before Olympic responded with a strong second-half push, briefly taking control behind interior scoring from Reece Rheinschmidt, who added 12 points and five rebounds, and timely perimeter shooting from D'Angelo Moore, who finished with 17 points and knocked down three three-pointers. The Rangers battled on the glass and generated second-chance opportunities, but Tacoma answered with key baskets down the stretch to maintain a slim advantage.
Despite shooting efficiently early, Olympic struggled to find consistent offense late as the game tightened, and a handful of missed opportunities in the final possessions prevented a late rally. Still, the Rangers' effort, physicality, and execution against a familiar rival provided an encouraging tune-up ahead of league play.
Olympic now turns its focus to the start of conference play, opening NWAC action on Wednesday, January 7, with a road matchup at Skagit Valley College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
